Photographic Shows in Cape Town

There is a lot of Photographic work to be seen on exhibition in and around Cape Town, below is list of galleries to visit - if you know of any other photographic work on show please post it on our blog.

David Goldblatt - Monument honouring Karel Landman who farmed
in this area until 1837, when he became a leader in the Great Trek.
He took a party of 180 Whites and their servants on a trek of
885 kilometres into Natal where he was prominent in several battles
with the Zulus. De Kol, Eastern Cape. 10 April 1993.

David Goldblatt's photographs of the last decade are an ongoing exploration of the intersections between people, values and land in post-apartheid South Africa.' This is a very powerful and moving body of work, I suggest you visit this one.

Peter van Heerden - Die Uitlander, the African and the Vrouw performance

There is a fair amount of contemporary south african photography on this show and a work by your lecturer. It is an extensive show that will give you a particular taste of local fine art production.

Ernest Cole

There is a show by the South African photographer Ernest Cole and there is always photographic work on show at the National Gallery as part of their permanent collection, it is worth taking a gentle stroll to this gallery during your lunch break.

The current show at the AVA was selected from all the graduate fine art shows in and around Cape Town 2007, it offers a snapshot of the emerging creativity and has a number of photographic pieces. It is so close it would be criminal not to pop in. If you are feeling aggressive you can arm wrestle your arch-enemy using Johann van der Schijff 'Arm Wrestle Podium'

Class - a photographic exhibition by Brent Meistre is opening on the Wed 6 Feb at 6pm - pop in for a free glass of wine if you like.

Karin Miller - African Princess
